Make It Happen

Make It Happen

Making it Happen is Hard Work. That’s the bottom line. Whether you’re just starting out, or had 10+ years as an Independent Artist it all comes down to loving what you do & working smarter not harder. Most importantly you have to believe in yourself and creating a long-term business plan. This is what most Artists DO NOT understand. To truly succeed, you have to be your own boss, create opportunities for yourself, understand marketing, know how to develop your social media platforms and have a phenomenal live show where you engage your fans & keep them connected. The world these days requires the Independent Music Artist to wear many different hats to make it happen & let’s be honest, most of US, just want to do what we’re damn good at: Making Music. So, where do we go from here? I think you have to really understand what you’re good at. Really sit down with yourself and ask that question: “What are my core strengths?” and “What are my weaknesses?” Once you understand this, just like a good business man, you’ll know where you excel and where you fall flat. From here, find others who compliment what you don’t do so well so you can make it happen. For instance, you might be a great lead singer/vocalist & extremely entertaining, but when it comes to marketing and selling your music, that’s not your forte. Great. Find someone who will do it for you. More often than not, one of your FANS, could be your next manager. Know your audience and let your fans know what you’re looking for. It’s OK to ask for help. In fact, you’re really smart if you ask for help, it’s the ones who think they know everything that fall flat on their face. No one in this entire world does everything by themselves. Learn to delegate what you’re not good at & find a network of people to surround yourself with that follow your core values, both in music & in life. Music is not a choice, it’s WHO WE ARE. That’s what so many people don’t understand. We know how painful it is to be working towards our dreams while our friends are following the more practical path of 9-5. But keep in mind, they NEVER had what YOU HAVE. They don’t understand, what you “GET.” This is soul stuff. Get used to your life as an Independent Musician making it happen. Don’t apologize for who you are. Stand proudly in the face of adversity and know that you do something that everyone in the world NEEDS. We need more songs. We need more empathy. We need more MUSIC. And now adays, if you can truly connect with your fans, you will find that others will believe in you too. But it starts with YOU. So, work hard, keep kicking ass & make it happen.
